Xizhi Calligraphy Institute  

Wang Xizhi Calligraphy Institute(WXCI), as an intramural research Institute, was founded in August 2011 in Linyi University, the predecessor of which was Wang Xizhi Calligraphy College established in 2004. Linyi marks China’s famous calligraphers Wang Xizhi and Yan Zhenqing’s hometown, as well as a calligraphy city renowned at home and abroad. Early in the 1980s, in order to inherit the art of calligraphy, Linyi University set up Wang Xizhi Institute and Zhu Geliang Institute, which were later renamed the Yimeng Figure Institute ect. Focusing on Wang Xizhi, our group has been performing research on Yimeng historical figures and their achievements. So far, we have achieved abundant research works and published works such as Wang Xizhi and his family; Wang Xizhi and King Langya; The Records of Wang Xizhi; The Records of Yan Zhenqing; Wang Xizhi’s Thoughts of Administrative Management; Wang Xizhi’s Four Inscribing; Reasons of the Rise of Langya’s Wang in Wei and Jin Dynasties; Selected Paintings and Calligraphy of Wang Xiaogu; Selected Calligraphy of Zhang Taomin ect, which lays the theoretical basis and staff foundation for the establishment of Wang Xizhi Calligraphy Institute.

Based on the inheritance of previous research achievements, Wang Xizhi Calligraphy Institute mainly generalizes and analyses calligrapher, art of calligraphy and calligraphic works in Langya with the the core figures, Wang Xizhi and Yan Zhenqing. WXCI is aiming at carrying forward tradition, preserving culture, cultivating disciplines and talents. WXCI has a strong faculty team with 1 doctor, 2 professors, 4 associate professors and 4 members with master degree. Calligraphy, as the leading academic discipline of Shandong Province, has been set up in College of Art in Linyi University. WXCI enrolls more than 300 undergraduates and, cooperating with Shandong University, cultivates post graduates of master degree, recruiting and implementing in 2011 and 2012. History on Inheritance and Acceptance- Wang Xizhi Calligraphy is included in the on-running research projects.

The solid foundation of calligraphy research brings the latest research projects and developing perspectives for Wang Xizhi Calligraphy Institute. In 2011, WXCI was awarded as "The national calligraphy training demonstration base", "Shandong Province calligraphy culture industry research and development base" and "Shandong Province calligraphy research center" by national and provincial sectors.
